February 6, 1898, the Order was founded by six theater owners in a Seattle waterfront shipyard. ( John Cort,
John Considine, T.J. Considine, Mose Goldsmith, H.L. Leavitt, and Melvin Winstock) The Fraternal Order, then called the Order of Good Things, not only welcomed the average man as a member, but fought for his right to a life of dignity and self-respect. By 1908, 1,871 Eagle Clubs were chartered. Introduction of Auxilliaries were started in 1927.
It was the Eagles who started Mother's Day, who provided the impetus for social security, who pushed for old
age pensions and medicare, and who ended job discrimination based on age. |

South Tacoma Eagles was Instituted on January 9, 1949. The Auxillary was Instituted on November 21, 1949.
We are the Founders and Home of the Annual Past State Presidents Dinner and Roast which is held on the
2nd Saturday in February. In 1997-1998, South Tacoma Eagles Aerie and Auxillary raised over 23,000 for
Diabetes, Cancer, S.I.D.S., Alzheimer's and Child Abuse Programs. The South Tacoma Eagles Celebrated
their 50th Anniversary January 9th 1999.
